Grace delivers a TRUE picture of a BDSM relationship. (Unlike certain other authors *cough* E L James *cough* who did an internet search and thought they were an expert).Now this is a sequel so be sure to read 'Choices' first.
The relationship between Cyrus and Nadir is beautiful. How their relationship with Bathasar and Teman grows kept me on the edge of my seat and the assassin added an element of mystery. The scenes had me hot and bothered (to the enjoyment of my lover). I have read ALL of her BDSM works and I have to say she is astounding!!!! If I could give more stars I would!

Deception is book 2 in the Golden Collar books and I loved it just as much as the first! The world building is deep as are the characters. I fell even more in love with Tem, Bath, Cyrus, and Nadir as they search for the threat to Bathazar and discover more about themselves and each other.
This book is really about Cyrus and Nadir, it centers on all four men and makes me want to read more! There was a short between Choices and Deception (free from Dreamspinner Press) and I hope she does it again for Deception.
Oh, and the sex it HOT, the men are delicious, and the love... pure, varied, and wonderful (even if they are at times all idiots, lol).
This is a reread for me. If you love love, sexy men, and intrigue, then this is the perfect book for you. I can't wait for the next one!
*Note you should read Choices first as this is a story that really builds from book to book.
Where to start? I loved Choices, but I think I love Deception even more. You still get plenty of Bath and Tem, but you get to see so much more of Nadir and Cyrus and their wonder and deep poly relationship develops in a natural and loving manner. It kept me turning pages as the men grew even more real to me and the "bad guy" is only partly revealed...
From the first pages, I was drawn in and even when the last page was done...I couldn't set it down.
I cannot wait for the next book in the Golden Collar series!
This book, focusing on Cyrus and Nadir of the Golden Collar series, is a fantastic followup to Choices and Coronation, building on the world and continuing the story. I’ve said it before but I’ll say it again, Grace R. Duncan’s rich worldbuilding makes everything feel so real. Deception is beautifully written with romance, angst, steamy sex scenes, believable characters, and enough political intrigue and action to keep the plot moving along.
I sympathized with the main four characters, even when I wanted to beat one or the other over the head for not doing what he needed to be true to himself, or to gain a sense of security in his relationships, depending on the situation.
I grew to love Nadir, Cyrus, Bathasar, and Teman more through this book even more than I had in Choices. Though this is Cyrus and Nadir’s story, Bathasar and Teman figure heavily in the plot, and all four men grow as the plot develops.
I have to make note of how much I enjoyed the erotic scenes in Deception. They were varied and deliciously written. If you like your sex scenes with some kink (orgasm delay/denial, Master/slave dynamics, sexual conditioning, semipublic play, and a little bit of impact play) this book will fill that desire! The sex scenes are incredibly hot, and each one has its purpose in relationship development or in advancing the plot.
Like Choices, Deception’s story includes sex with more than two men involved. But the difference here is that Deception explores the concept of polyamory - romantic love for more than one person - and the emotional ramifications on all parties. As someone who knows people in polyamorous relationships, I can say that this was handled both gracefully and realistically.
I won’t give it away, but I loved the ending… and look forward to the next trip the author takes us on through Neyem and the surrounding countries.
Grace does it again. Love,danger,suspense,and resolution all happen in the pages of Deception. A story that defines the depths of the heart. I laughed and cried in this wonderful and touching story.
