Reese Sheppard has worked for a decade building her business and unshakable reputation to create a thriving, no-kill sanctuary for the animals of Sullivan County, Tennessee. Then, a crime spree begins—spreading three counties wide and growing in violence with each new victim, all of whom point the finger at Reese as the culprit.
Not only facing jail time, the allegations also threaten to ruin everything Reese has worked for professionally and personally. But evidence doesn’t lie. And it’s all pointing to no one else but her . . .

This is a fabulous mystery! One of the biggest mysteries to me is how this novel isn’t a best seller, as the author shares a remarkable, and spooky, story that includes realistic characters, a somewhat unique plot, and a mystery that should be easy to solve if one didn’t know Reese as well as her best friend.Reese has worked hard to build Rescued, an animal shelter where dogs remain until a fur-ever home is found for them. Her employees are loyal, giving their all to the animals coming in from various circumstances. She is content, living on a wooded property with her five dogs. Reese’s best friend is a woman she shared a foster family with many years ago, Rachel. Rachel works for the local children’s services, and sometimes their cases have mutual ties.
Reese meets Hunter at a trashed-out home where she was called to pick up dogs with injuries or chained so tightly they can’t move. She sees a pit bull, and then is threatened by a young boy, Hunter, who claims he will shoot her if she takes Jack. Calming the boy, she finally diffuses the situation. As she learns more about Hunter, she wants to do her best to keep boy and dog together once the dog is well and Hunter has a place to go.
Reese is accused of crimes she didn’t commit, with victims each giving a description of her to the sketch artist that are unmistakably her. Boone, the cop she has known and worked cases with for years, is forced to do what he doesn’t want to. Reese’s attorney, Cormick Shaw, originally from Ireland, is ready to work tirelessly for her – both to win her case and her heart.
This is a remarkably unique mystery, with characters who are so well defined that they stayed with me after reading the final page. I wish this were the start of a series! The plot twists make the mystery hard to solve, and this armchair sleuth was unable to come up with the motive or the bad guy(s). The complexity of the mystery is appreciated, and I was stunned when the full scope was revealed. Dog lovers will appreciate this, as will those who like well-written, complex mystery with very likable characters. I highly recommend it!!

Rescued edition by Lauren Hope Religion Spirituality eBooks Reviews
This was a very exciting mystery story with a surprise ending. Good dog story too. And Reese and Cormick good people
Lauren Hope writes a great cozy mystery with unexpected twists and turns. Couldn't put it down until I had finished. Her characters are well developed and pull you in. Would recommend this to all mystery readers.
The story is ok. Reading the first half seemed to last forever. Some parts had to much detail that wasn’t needed. I actually didn’t read it for a month and finally went back to it just to get it done. The last half went a lot quicker as the story started to actually give some answers.
Loved his book from start to finish. I did not want to put it down. Great characters, good surprises, and the twists and turns kept me turning pages.
Very good story line. Good depth to characters and held my interest throughout the book. Would have given five stars but for some editing issues. I will definitely read other books by this author.
Don't give out 5 stars too often but this book deserves it!!! The author has a wonderful way way of pulling you in and keeping you there. The book has everything including jaw dropping twists and turns. Fasten your seat belt and enjoy!!!!
